Lxxvii. the Chemistry of Amino-acid Deamination
نویسنده
چکیده
THE final phase of amino-acid metabolism, involving the removal of nitrogen from the amino-group and the production of urea, is generally regarded as involving two distinct processes: (1) deamination, with the liberation of ammonia, (2) dehydration of ammonium carbonate, with formation of urea. The change being represented as: R. CH(NH2) . COOH NH3 (NH4C03CON2H4 Now, while there is no doubt as to the general character of the transformation, the chemical changes involved in each intermediate process are somewhat obscure. The present paper is concerned chiefly with the first process, but it will be seen that the conclusions arrived at afford an indication as to the mechanism of the formation of urea from ammonium salts.

Preliminary Report of NAD+-Dependent Amino Acid Dehydrogenase Producing Bacteria Isolated from Soil
Amino acid dehydrogenases (L-amino acid: oxidoreductase deaminating EC 1.4.1.X) are members of the wider superfamily of oxidoreductases that catalyze the reversible oxidative deamination of an amino acid to its keto acid and ammonia with the concomitant reduction of either NAD+, NADP+ or FAD. These enzymes have been received much attention as biocatalysts for use in biosensors or diagnostic kit...
متن کاملThe mechanism of action of histidase: amino-enzyme formation and partial reactions.
Histidase catalyzes the irreversible nonoxidative deamination of histidine to urocanic acid. This reaction (Equation 1) has been studied in mammalian and bacterial preparations (1). Although enzymes which carry out similar deaminations of other amino acids (notably aspartic acid) have been described, to date no detailed studies of the mechanism of the process of nonoxidative deamination have be...
متن کاملA Synthetic Approach for Evaluation of Cytosinediazonium Susceptibility
Reaction of a nucleobase with nitrosonium ion leads to its diazotization. Due to the instability, the nucleobase-diazonium assumingly falls in dediazotization and successive ring openingreactions. The resulting intermediate of the ring opening reaction is able to covalently cross-linkthe opposite strands of DNA. To examine this assumption for cytosine, some 4-amino-5-cyanopyrimidines were synthe...
متن کاملOxidative deamination of S-adenosyl-L-homocysteine by rat kidney L-amino acid oxidase.
Cell-free extracts prepared from rat kidney or liver catalyzed the oxidative deamination of S-adenosyl-Lhomocysteine to S-adenosyl-y-thio-a-ketobutyrate. This reaction was found to be catalyzed by L-amino acid oxidase (L-amino acid:oxygen oxidoreductase (deaminating), EC 1.4.3.2). In the presence of catalase, 0.48 pmole of oxygen was consumed for each micromole of substrate oxidized, and 1 pmol...

In an investigation of transamination reactions between pyridoxal and amino acids at 100” (2) serine was found to behave anomalously, apparently being deaminated to pyruvic acid with little change in pyridoxal concentration. Although serine is known to be deaminated by hot concentrated alkalies (3) and acids (4), such a non-enzymatic reaction in the pH range near neutrality has not been reporte...
